OPEN_SCORE

Responsible AI in music,
led by musicians.

Artificial intelligence is transforming music at a pace that outstrips our understanding of its implications. OPEN_SCORE is a musician-led not-for-profit dedicated to transparency, honest dialogue, and ensuring the people who make music have a seat at the table where its future is being decided.

The moment

AI-generated music is being uploaded to streaming platforms at unprecedented volume — with no agreed standard for disclosure.

The gap

No musician-led organization exists whose primary purpose is structured, ongoing dialogue between the music community and AI developers.

Our role

OPEN_SCORE sits at the table — holding both sides accountable, building transparency standards, and keeping musicians in the room.

Transparency Dialogue Musician Sovereignty

Who we are

Music has always been shaped by the people who make it.

OPEN_SCORE is a not-for-profit organization founded on the conviction that musicians must be the primary voices in decisions that shape the role of AI in music creation. We believe in neither uncritical adoption nor reflexive resistance — but in honest, informed, and transparent engagement.

We work at the intersection of music, technology, and policy — developing practical transparency standards, hosting structured public dialogue between musicians and AI companies, and publishing independent research that serves the music community rather than the industry.

Our governance requires a musician majority at every level. That's not a stated value. It's written into our charter.

Our work

01

Transparency

Developing the AI Disclosure Framework — a practical, publicly available standard that specifies how AI involvement in music creation should be credited and communicated to listeners, platforms, and the industry.

02

Dialogue

Hosting the Open Frequency Summit annually — structured, moderated, and publicly accessible conversations between working musicians and the AI technology companies whose tools are reshaping their industry.

03

Research

Commissioning and publishing independent research on AI's impact on musicians' livelihoods, creative practices, and the broader music ecosystem. All findings are published openly and free of charge.

Get involved

We're looking for founding members who care about getting this right.

Founding membership is not a financial commitment. It's a commitment of presence, credibility, and voice. We're building a founding group that reflects the full breadth of the music community — across genres, career stages, backgrounds, and relationships to technology.

You don't need a fully formed view on AI in music. You need to care about the question and be willing to engage with it honestly.

We're looking for

  • Musicians across genres, instruments, and career stages
  • Music industry professionals — producers, engineers, managers, publishers
  • People genuinely curious about AI, not just alarmed by it
  • Diverse perspectives across genre, geography, and background
  • Independent business and legal advisors who support the mission
